One place to see what's on for kids and families in Hunters Point / Long Island City. The calendar is pulled automatically from public event feeds -- parks, libraries, and local arts organizations -- refreshed every few hours. No event is hand-entered.

Every listing links back to its original source. If a time or location looks wrong, that's the place to double-check -- we mirror what the venue publishes, we don't edit it.

Current sources

Schools

The education section works differently from the calendar. A school roster changes once a year, not every six hours, so it is a committed dataset rebuilt on demand rather than a live feed: locations from the NYC Facilities Database, grade ranges from DOE School Locations, and capacity from the School Construction Authority's Enrollment Capacity & Utilization report. Every figure is shown with the date of the edition it came from -- the newest capacity data the city publishes is from 2023, and the newest tabular grade data is from the 2019-20 school year. Neither is presented as current.

It covers LIC proper -- zips 11101 and 11109 -- and public and charter schools only. Private schools are counted but not listed, because no open dataset publishes their capacity or admissions process, and a name and address beside missing numbers would look more comparable than it is.

Scope

Phase 1 is deliberately narrow: Hunters Point + kids-and-family programming only. That's an honest tradeoff -- most of what's live today is outdoor summer programming, so the calendar will thin out heading into fall and winter. If that's a real gap rather than a search failure, the plan is to widen scope (more of LIC, more ages) rather than let the site go quiet -- the domain isn't age- or ZIP-locked, so that doesn't need a rename.
